6 Strange Food Combinations Only People In Delaware Will Love
For being such a small state, Delaware has some very strong culinary preferences. These six dishes are all examples of the strangest parts of Delaware cuisine – combinations that the rest of the country would not quite understand. How many of these are favorites of yours?
1. Scrapple and Egg
We don't really question scrapple. We don't want to know what it's made from, we just want it well done as a side dish to our favorite breakfast eggs.
2. The Bobbie
Everyone loves Thanksgiving, so Capriotti's decided to put it on a roll. It's all pretty normal - turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing.. until you get to the part where it's topped with mayo. Yum?
3. Fries and Vinegar
Boardwalk fries just don't taste right with ketchup anymore. In fact, you can't even get ketchup at Thrashers.
4. Crabs... and fried chicken.
Lots of people speculate that crab feasts come with fried chicken so that you fill up on the chicken and order fewer crabs. Whatever the reasons is, combining the two is now a Delaware tradition.
5. Pretzel Salad
Strawberries, pretzels, and cream cheese combine to make this tasty treat that's all the rage in Sussex County... and no where else.
6. Slippery Dumplings
Let's be honest with ourselves - these are noodles, not dumplings. We don't care, though, we'll continue to put them in our crock pots or soup pots and cook them up with a creamy chicken broth and serve them up as our favorite Delmarva dinner.
Whew – now I’m hungry! I think I’ll plan to make a big pot of slippery dumplings for this weekend… and finally see if I can figure out how to make a good pretzel salad. For more of the best (and strangest) in Delaware cuisine, check out our list of
