Here Are The 6 Most Enchanting, Magical Christmas Towns In Delaware
Holiday decorations are out all over the state, and many charming Delaware towns are kicking off their holiday festivities this weekend. From historic tours of colonial homes, to lit-up train rides and evertyhing in between, there’s a christmas town in Delaware for everyone. Here are my picks for top Christmas towns in the state, in no particular order, because I really do love them all this time of year.
1. New Castle
New Castle is one of the most charming Christmas towns in Delaware, and much of it is due to the New Castle Historical Society's efforts to preserve the colonial history and tradition of Old New Castle. Each year, the town of New Castle hosts their "Spirit of Christmas" event. This year, it's held on December 10, 2016 and will include historic house tours, caroling, a tree lighting and more. As always, it's a free event. You can find out more information on the
New Castle Spirit of Christmas here.
Just like New Castle, Odessa is a colonial town that's dedicated to preserving tradition, and the holidays are no exception. Candlelit walking tours, historic homes, caroling and more are just some of the events hosted by the Historic Odessa Foundation throughout December. Find their full schedule of events on the
Historic Odessa Foundation Facebook page.
This charming river town is also one of the prettiest Christmas towns in Delaware, with downtown vendors decorating their storefronts and lighting up the streets. Their signature event is the Milford Holiday Stroll, during which the Walnut street merchants show off their decor, and carolers and live music are heard throughout town. This year, the Holiday Stroll is on December 2nd. Get more
event information here.
Wilmington and Western Railroad
If the fact that a giant vintage rail car carrying over 7,000 lights rides through the town four or five times a night until Christmas doesn't clue you in to how much of a Christmas town Hockessin is, I don't know what would. Downtown vendors decorate their shops, carolers and live music are a common sight, and houses are decked in lights and wreaths. Of course, the
Holiday Lights Express
is the main attraction in Hockessin during the holidays.
5. Rehoboth Beach
Starting with the Tree Lighting on November 25th, downtown Rehoboth Beach becomes an incredible Christmas Village in Delaware in the weeks leading up to the holiday. Lights everywhere, Santa sightings, caroling and more will transport you to the north pole. Read more about it on the
The Lewes Christmas Parade is a longstanding tradition, but the town is one-upping itself this year and created a "Winter Wonderfest" of lights and holiday exhibits, making it a solid contender for best Christmas town in Delaware. Read up on the Winter Wonderfest happenings
