The beautiful Addy Sea is one of the most iconic buildings in Bethany Beach.
The Addy Sea was built in 1901, by plumber John M. Addy. He built it as a summer retreat for his family, and the building was the first in town to have gaslights and indoor plumbing. The second generation of the Addy family began to offer up rooms for travelers, and in the 1970s, the property was sold to Gravatte, another longtime Bethany Beach family. Since then, many of the original fixtures have been restored, the property has been meticulously maintained, and it's an incredible place to spend a night in Bethany Beach... as long as you don't mind sharing your room with some spirits.
Walking in to the Addy Sea is a bit like walking back in time. The decor is a throwback to the Inn's history, and while the rooms are spotless and pristine, they will bring you back to an earlier era.
Bethany Beach is an ideal destination for a getaway. Perhaps this is why there are several ghosts in the Addy Sea that never seem to want to leave the beach!
Three of the Inn's 13 rooms are reportedly haunted - Room 1, Room 6, and Room 11. In Room 1, the bathtub shakes and noises fill the air. In Room 6, you'll hear an organ playing from a distance - though no such instrument exists on the property. In Room 11, the tub jets will turn on by themselves, cell phones turn off randomly, and the spirit of a former employee from the early 1900s makes his presence known.
The view from each of these rooms is so beautiful that you can't be surprised that former guests and employees remain here long after their body has departed the Earth!
