Most People Have No Idea This Unique Park Near Washington DC Exists
When you visit this park near Washington DC, you’re taking leap back in time… a really big leap, into prehistoric time. Ninety minutes outside of the district, in White Post, Virginia, you will find the most unique park near Washington DC and you won’t want to skip out on a trip there.
During these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list to visit at a later date.
Dinosaur Land has been entertaining travelers for 50 years on the side of Stonewall Jackson Highway. This roadside attraction has over 50 dinosaurs and much more, all for your entertainment.
The story is that Joe Geraci, the original owner of the park, loved the dinosaurs that were at a putt-putt golf course he visited while in Florida and thought they would be a unique attraction to add to his gift shop in Virginia.
Eventually he realized that the dinosaurs were the main attraction and renamed his place “Dinosaur Land.” The park is still owned and operated by Joe’s family.
Dinosaur Land is exactly as it looks. It was built in the 1960s and not much has been added to it since so it’s slightly kitschy and a bit silly.
But that’s one of the things that makes it a must-visit destination. The park is larger than it first appears and there is plenty to see as you explore it.
In addition to the replicas, there are signs that explain what type of dinosaur it is, where it lived, and what it was like so you can get some education while you’re enjoying the goofiness of the adventure.
And there’s not only dinosaurs there either! For whatever reason there is a giant shark, an octopus, a king cobra and even a giant King Kong.
You can take your picture on some of the attractions, like the giant shark and the King Kong, perfect for Instagram lovers.
Dinosaur Land is located at 3848 Stonewall Jackson Hwy., White Post, VA. It costs $6 for adults and $5 for children under 11.
Dinosaur Land is an old fashioned American roadside attraction, complete with a huge gift shop that you enter and exit through. With the wide array of quirky gifts, it’s hard to not pick something up.
