Washington DC runs on coffee. We’re always running off to a coffee meeting, fueling up in the middle afternoon and trying to find the best coffee that the city has to offer. It’s something we do right and we have some of the best. Here Are 12 unique coffee shops in Washington DC with java to die for.

1 Compass Coffee
Two former Marines opened up this coffee shop following their time in the Afghanistan. After years of unsatisfactory coffee, they are always experimenting and perfecting their blends.
2. Baked and Wired
This Georgetown shop is best known for its exquisite cupcakes and there is usually a line out the door. But the coffee is not to be missed here either. Their espressos are always perfect and their latte art is not to be missed.
3. Flying Fish Coffee and Tea
Flying Fish aims to make everything possible in-house and you can taste it in their drinks. Their coffee is from Counter Culture Coffee and is not to be missed.
Tryst is an Adams Morgan institution. They brew Counter Culture Coffee and have earned their reputation for a DC favorite with locals.
They love their coffee at Qualia Coffee. In fact they love it so much, they want everyone to learn more about it and offer free coffee tastings in the roasting corner of the cafe twice a month to help customers learn about coffee.
6. Kafe Bohem
A little bit hidden away in Georgetown, Kafe Bohem serves Eastern European delights, delicious pastries, and tasty lattes.
The unique pour over bar is a feature of this Dupont cafe and allows their baristas to experiment with how they use their coffee beans.
The latte art is one of a kind at Peregrine and they don’t mess around with the taste of their coffee either. If you love Peregrine but don’t feel like leaving your house, they’ll deliver fresh roasted beans to you by bike right to your doorstep.
9. The Coffee Bar
The Coffee Bar is a locally owned, hipster style coffee bar who focuses on taste and flavor of their coffee.
10. Songbyrd Record Cafe
A record shop, a music venue, and a coffee shop all in one. Offering an eclectic ambiance, relaxed vibe, and absolutely delicious coffee, this place is one of a kind.
11. La Colombe
Hidden in a little alley way, La Colombe has high quality ingredients, nitro lattes on tap, delicious espressos and a great price point.
Slipstream is a regular coffee shop that also transitions into a bar with cocktails in the evening. You could happily spend all day there if you wanted.
