The original mansion was built in the 19th century and designed in part by local architect, Stanford White. The house has been passed down through the last century.
It has served as the go-to place for some of Connecticut's high society members, then later became a veteran's home, and, now, an inn.
The Stanton House was named in 1937 when then owner Nora Stanton Barney named the house in honor of her grandmother and feminist reformer, Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
From the 1960s until it was bought by its current owners, the house was a boarding house. In 1985, the home was revived and transformed into an Inn.
