Louis’ Lunch has officially re-opened to the public, and the team is ready to cook you the tasty burger you’ve come to expect from their historic little hut.

Louis' Lunch is a tiny but mighty burger stand that is located on Crown Street in New Haven.

Since its original opening, it has appeared in numerous publications and on The Travel Channel, The Food Network, and more.
It all started in 1895 when Louis Lassen decided to open a little lunch spot.

In 1900, a man rushed in and told Louis he was in a hurry and really needed something he could eat on the go. Louis placed his own blend of ground steak trimmings between two slices of toast and sent the gentleman on his way. Thus, this place is credited with being the birthplace of the hamburger.
Over a century later, Louis' Lunch is still family-owned and operated.

Louis’ great-grandson, Jeff Lassen, is currently running the show. They are still serving the traditional hamburger sandwiches this place is known for.
As you can see, this isn't your ordinary burger. Some say it's better.

It's cooked to your specifications, but the team recommends medium rare. And it's still served between two slices of toast.
The menu is small and simple here, consisting only of the Original Burger, chips, potato salad, and homemade pie.

It was threatened with demolition in the early 1970s to make room for the construction of a new high rise, but the locals were not having it. Hours before the deadline to save it, the entire burger joint was loaded onto a truck and carefully transported to its current location, where it was rebuilt brick by brick.
Louis' Lunch is now open Tuesday through Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. for dine-in and takeout.
