Few People Know There’s A Waterfall Hidden Just Off The Highway In Connecticut

Driving down a highway in Connecticut doesn't feel very natural. Interstate 91 mostly follows the Connecticut River, but it travels through cities like New Haven and Hartford. It's about as far from a peaceful walk through the woods as you can get. It might surprise you, therefore, to learn that just off of Interstate 91, you can access a mostly-hidden waterfall! There's a little parking area right off the road, and with just a 50-foot walk, you can reach a lovely little set of falls.

The cascades are known as Westfield Falls, and they're a literal hidden gem in Connecticut.

The sound of cars from the highway mean you won't be able to enjoy secluded tranquility here, but when you hear the sound of the roaring water, you can pretend you're miles away from civilization.

There's something oddly inspirational about bits of natural wonder stuck right in the middle of man-made development. It's amazing that nature is able to survive the damage that civilization tries to inflict.

The falls are about 15-20 feet each, with the strength varying throughout the year.

The flow tends to be strongest after a good rainfall.

Unfortunately, the area is often victim to graffiti and littering.

As always when in any natural place, make sure to leave no trace and keep the area clean for future visitors to enjoy.
