The Incredible Moment When Connecticut Will Go Dark That Will Go Down In History
In 1918, a solar eclipse crossed directly over the United States. It was the first and only time in that century that such a spectacular astronomical sight took place. Now, after 99 years of waiting, an eclipse will once again cross over the country, casting some areas in to complete darkness. They’re calling the approaching phenomenon the Great American Eclipse.

That's when the eclipse will take place. The coolest thing is that it will take place at around 2:45 pm EST, meaning the sun will disappear in the middle of the day! The Great American Eclipse will stretch from Portland, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina, but that doesn't mean Connecticut will be unaffected.

75% or more of the sun will be blocked out for a brief moment. This once in a lifetime experience will pass quickly so make sure you find a place to go in advance so you don't miss it.

On August 11, the seaport is having an event to teach interested residents about the eclipse which includes a star show and a look through a telescope. You'll also learn everything you need to know to get the best view of the eclipse. Get more information about this event.
The Great American Eclipse isn’t the only time the Connecticut sky is worth admiring. Check out these awesome sunrises too!
