Marvel Over Frozen Bridges And Snow-Frosted Rock Formations On This Winter Hike In Connecticut
When the temperatures starts dropping and the snow begins falling, many of us have a tendency to bundle up inside and enjoy indoor activities. However, there’s no need for the outdoor fun to end just because Old Man Winter has arrived! We’ve got so many great winter hikes in Connecticut that are just as fun when the ground’s covered in snow. There’s nothing that’ll warm you up quicker than burning a few calories, and one spot you’re sure to do just that is at Devil’s Den Preserve. This place may have a spooky name, but it’s an absolutely beautiful site that, if anything, looks even better in the winter.
The Devil's Den Preserve (officially known as the Lucius Pond Ordway Devil's Den Preserve) is 1,746 acres of pristine wilderness in Weston and Redding. It's one of several Connecticut preserves managed by the Nature Conservancy.
Don't let the creepy name scare you away - this place is beautiful! According to local legend, marks in rocks found in the area were the footprints of the Devil.
There are over 20 miles of trails here, with lots of options for varying distances. None of the hikes are too difficult and they're all great for hiking with the whole family, though note that dogs are not allowed in the preserve.
