We all need a little pick-me-up now and again. Maybe family or work issues have got you down, or maybe you’ve just been feeling a little blue. Whatever the reason, a day trip certainly can’t hurt. One particularly friendly city in Connecticut that’s sure to cheer even the most downhearted of visitors is Essex. This spot’s population is less than 10,000, but with friendly residents, plenty of attractions, and absolutely stunning scenery, there’s no way you can leave here sad!

Essex is the perfect blend of friendly people, natural beauty, history, and amenities. It's no wonder that it's been named the best small town in America by several publications.

The village of Essex is surrounded by water on three sides. The Connecticut River Museum is located near the river, and it's a great place to learn about the history of the Connecticut River Valley area.
