With the weather getting colder, you may be hard pressed for things to do. But there’s plenty of fun to be had in Connecticut! These free activities are all perfect for the winter season, from holiday-themed attractions to simply enjoying the warmth of an indoor venue. Check them out:
1. Wood Memorial Library & Museum
783 Main St, South Windsor, Connecticut 06074
This small town library is host to the larger than life Gingerbread House Festival. You have until December 10th to check out these incredibly crafted houses, so don't miss out! Plus Santa will be there on December 2nd.
2. Wadsworth Antheneum
600 Main Street, Hartford, CT 06103.
This art museum is known for its great collections, and Wednesday through Sunday there's free admission for those arriving between the hours of 4 and 5. It's an excellent activity to enjoy before dinner.
3. Ivoryton Illuminations
Located in the village of Ivoryton.
The big tree lighting event takes place December 3rd at 5:00 pm, but this place stays lighted for the whole month! With over 350,000 lights, why not visit this wonderland and go shopping, or even snag a ticket to the Christmas show at the local playhouse.
4. Fort Griswold
57 Fort Street, Groton, CT 06340.
This scenic spot is loaded with history, and a fan favorite as far as war history is concerned. Folks of all ages insist on returning here again and again.

Free ice skating, including the skate rentals, are going on all month in the capital! You'll love sliding across the ice in a city setting, as the wealth of nearby amenities makes it perfect for a day trip.
6. Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History
170 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT 06511.
See the famous dinosaur mural and get lost in the wonders of the world. Admission is free on Thursdays from 2-5 so you can enjoy this awesome museum free of charge. It's a little known deal that's totally worth it!
7. Chester's Winter Carnivale
Located in the village of Chester.
Mark your calendars, folks! February 19th is the greatest winter celebration in the state. Cooky costumes, people on stilts, and a whole lot of fun make this a must do winter celebration!
8. Time Machine Hobby
71 Hilliard Street, Manchester, Connecticut 06042.
This giant toy and hobby store is two floors of pure joy. And it's also home to 5,000 square feet of model train! You can see them in action the first and third Sunday of every month from 1 - 4 pm.
9. Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry
1 Royce Circle, Ste 101B, Storrs, Connecticut 06268.
This hidden treasure features thousands of puppets from around the world, making it one of the most interest free activities around. Few places are more unique than this.
10. Center Church
250 Temple Street, New Haven, CT 06511.
A lot of people don't know there's a historic crypt hiding under this church, but there is and it's totally free to visit! Many of the state's famous original inhabitants can be found here.
