7 Of The Greatest Hiking Trails In Connecticut For Beginners
We love lengthy hikes in the Nutmeg State. There are several great trails that will take you much of the day to complete, or even multiple days! But that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of great beginner-friendly trails in Connecticut to enjoy. We’ve gathered up some of our favorite shorter, easier hikes throughout the state for you. These are great for those hiking with kids or inexperienced hikers who aren’t looking for a difficult journey. Check them out:
Bluff Point State Park, 55 Depot Rd, Groton, CT 06340, USA

Bluff Point State Park is so underrated. This 800-acre oasis contains miles of coastline and has some wonderful trails. The Coastal Reserve Trail is an easy 3.6-mile loop with very little elevation gain. The scenery is stunning, but it can get pretty buggy in the summer, so make sure to bring mosquito repellent!
Hammonasset Beach, Madison, CT 06443, USA

Hammonassett Beach is one of the more popular state parks in Connecticut. Its two miles of shoreline is the longest public beach in the state, and an absolutely perfect place for a seaside stroll.
Hidden Valley Preserve, 198 Bee Brook Rd, Washington Depot, CT 06794, USA

The Bee Brook Loop is a popular trail due to its beautiful scenery and unique suspension bridge. It's tucked away in the Hidden Valley Preserve and spans a little over two miles.
Lake Mohegan, Fairfield, CT 06825, USA

The Lake Mohegan Loop is a 2.1-mile loop that's great all year round - it's a great spot for snowshoeing! The loop around the lake is lovely and perfect for dogs.
Kent Falls State Park, 462 Kent Cornwall Rd, Kent, CT 06757, USA

It doesn't get much prettier than Kent Falls State Park, and with 200 acres to explore, it also doesn't get much roomier. You'll find a variety of trails here of different difficulties, but one of the easiest (and most beautiful!) is the Red and Yellow Loop. This .7-mile loop won't take you long to get through and will take you right up to the park's eponymous falls.
Day Pond, Colchester, CT 06415, USA

This easy loop trail in Salmon River State Forest is a great option if you're looking for varied landscapes. You'll head by a pond, through the woods, and even past a waterfall!
Gillette Castle State Park, East Haddam, CT 06423, USA

Gillette Castle is one of our favorite castles in Connecticut, and the park's 2.2-mile loop trail is an easy way to get a great view of both the magnificent structure and the park itself.
We love to hear about easy trails in Connecticut (and not-so-easy ones, for that matter!), so if you have any others to recommend, feel free to share in the comments!
