Visit Desert Reef Hot Spring, One Of Colorado’s Most Underrated Springs And A Great Summer Destination
Colorado is known both near and far for its incredible hot springs, which includes the likes of Glenwood Hot Springs, Pagosa Springs, and Conundrum Hot Springs, but did you know that we have several little-known mineral pools as well? If you prefer to soak somewhere that is as quiet as it is soothing, we recommend visiting the underrated and little-known Desert Reef Hot Spring:
Welcome to the stunning Desert Reef Hot Springs, a serene natural outdoor environment. It's a place to soak and a place to relax.
Tucked away near the Royal Gorge in the town of Florence, the Desert Reef is hiding in - you guessed it! - the quiet desert, which will transport you a million miles from the ordinary.
Drilled by Conoco Oil in the 1940s, Desert Reef was initially part of the Florence oil exploration project but later became a southern Colorado destination.
While the water - which comes in from 1,096 feet below the earth - starts extremely hot (132 degrees, to be exact) and pure, it is cooled by air convection, and seasonally adjusted to create an ideal temperature.
As per their website, during the summer, the temperature is maintained below body temperature, and in the winter, it is maintained at over 100 degrees.
The Desert Reef Hot Spring is a private family-oriented facility and is open to all ages, but please note that there is a clothing-optional 18+ soak every Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
