The Centennial State has more rustic and unpaved trails than one can count, but there are times when even native Coloradans want something a bit easier yet just as rewarding. Where does one go for this unicorn of a trail? We recommend this paved loop that will take you around a peaceful Colorado lake:
Welcome to the gorgeous Lake Estes Trail!
Encompassing - you guessed it! - Lake Estes, the Lake Estes Trail is billed as the central hub for the extensive trail network throughout Estes Park and the surrounding Rocky Mountain National Park, making it a must for beginners and experts alike.
Spanning 4 beautiful miles, the Lake Estes Trail is a paved loop that boasts picture-perfect views of the water and the surrounding Rocky Mountain National Park and is deemed suitable for hikers, bikers, and joggers.
Keep your eyes peeled because, in addition to the landscape, the Lake Estes Trail is also famous for area wildlife sightings a la birds, deer, elk, and bears.
On that note, Fido is allowed on the trail but must always be on a leash!
It doesn't get any more peaceful than Lake Estes.
Admission to the Lake Estes Trail is free.
The Lake Estes Trail can be accessed by taking Highway 34 to the town's Visitor Center parking, from Lake Front Drive to Fisherman's Nook, or via the Lake Estes Marina.
The Lake Estes Trail is open year-round.
