This Hidden Sanctuary In Colorado Is Home To One Of The Largest Herds Of Wild Mustangs In America
If you have studied Colorado history or have ever looked at a map, you know that the Centennial State is part of the (once) Wild West and housed many cowboys, outlaws, and horses. In terms of the latter, you can still find plenty of equines here, thanks, in part, to this hidden animal sanctuary in Colorado that is home to one of the largest herds of wild mustangs in the country:
Located in south-central Colorado is the Engler Canyon Ranch, a 30,000-acre refuge for 167 high-risk mustangs and burros.
Founded in 2017, the Engler Canyon Ranch rescues and rehabilitates formerly confined horses and gives them the life they were intended to have, thanks to the sanctuary's beautiful wide open spaces.
To make the ranch even more perfect, it also offers a year-round water and food source for the animals via shallow step ponds and unlimited shrubs and grass.
