It’s no secret that those of us in Colorado love our green chile… but where do you go to get the best of the best? No, I’m not referring to restaurants (although I am always open to new suggestions!) I mean actual towns to visit to get your fix! If we had to decide, we would say that Creede is the green chile capital of the world and here is why:

Located within the scenic San Luis Valley, Creede is a town of nearly 300 that has both a rich history as well as a number of unforgettable attractions. Incorporated in 1892, Creede was a one-time booming silver town (the last silver boom town in Colorado, to be exact) that once housed nearly 10,000 residents. Soon after the Silver Panic, Creede returned to its roots and became a hotbed for the hard rock mining industry by mining a number of different precious minerals until 1985 when the price of silver once again plummeted. After Creede’s last mine closed, the town looked to other means of income, which resulted in them (successfully) cashing in on the tourism industry.

What makes this fascinating tiny town the green chile capital of the world, you ask? It’s because of its several delicious restaurants that serve some of the tastiest chile in the state! The next time you visit Creede, make plans to stay awhile and sample the unique green chile recipes found at these restaurants:
