This Beautiful Temple In Colorado Is The Only One Of Its Kind In America
Colorado is home to some of the most jaw-dropping churches, cathedrals, and temples in the country. From the picture-perfect Chapel on the Rock all the way up to the masterpiece United States Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel, there are different places of worship for nearly every belief and every architectural taste, including this hidden gem in Northern Colorado:
Spanning across 600 acres of the lush Roosevelt National Forest lies the Shambhala Mountain Center; a gorgeous outdoor retreat offering numerous classes, programs, and special events.
Featuring a number of year-round indoor and outdoor yoga retreats...
...lectures and classes from prominent figures in both Shambhala and Buddhism...
...and a number of different workshops, Shambhala Mountain Center has become a true haven for thousands since its founding in 1971.
While all of the programs and events that Shambhala Mountain Center offer have proven time and again to be a huge success, one of the most popular and unique parts of the property is that of the The Great Stupa of Dharmakaya.
Built after the death of Center founder Chogyam Trungpa, this 108-foot-tall temple -- or stupa -- "serves as an inspiration for peace and compassion throughout the world."
Its unique architecture is stunning...
....the colors are vibrant...
...and it's overall design is eye-catching.
The Great Stupa of Dharmakaya (Which Liberates Upon Seeing) is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated.
The Shambhala Mountain Center is located at 151 Shambhala Way in Red Feather Lakes. More information on upcoming programs, lodging, and the retreat's history can be found on the Shambhala Mountain Center's
