One Of The World’s Deadliest Roads Is Located Outside Of Denver
It is no secret that Denver is home to some really, really terrible roads (I’m looking at you, I-25, I-70, and Colorado Blvd with all of your ridiculous potholes!)… but to be considered one of the worst roads in the entire world? Now that is quite the accolade, which can only be claimed by this beautiful, albeit dangerous Colorado road:
Located outside of Silverton is U.S. Route 550, which is more commonly known as either the San Juan Skyway or Million Dollar Highway. Spanning from Bernalillo, New Mexico to Montrose, the Million Dollar Highway is a gorgeous stretch of road that earned its famous name after locals began saying that you’d have to pay them $1M to drive it during or after a snowstorm,… but why? Being compared to the likes of the Los Caracoles Road in Chile and the Sichuan-Tibet Highway in China, the Million Dollar Highway made Business Insider’s list of the 6 most terrifying roads in the world for its lack of guard rails and steep cliffs, which have injured nearly 70 motorists and claimed the lives of another 8.
Have you driven this terrifying stretch of road? Is it as bad as they claim? Let us know in the comments!
