When J.R.R. Tolkien penned his iconic Lord of the Rings and Hobbit series, he made the setting a mythical land full of lush greenery, dense forests, majestic purple mountains, and streams of crystal blue water… sound familiar? If I’m not mistaken, Tolkien’s Middle Earth sounds eerily similar to that of half of the state of Colorado, namely the large and stunning Rocky Mountain National Park (which is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Denver!). Pretty spot on, right? (And is it just me or was Gollum totally creeping around the background in a few of those shots?) For even more Colorado whimsy, check out The Winter Horseback Riding Trail Near Denver That’s Pure Magic.
