You Haven’t Lived Until You’ve Experienced This One Incredible Park In Denver
Developed in 1899 and recently designated as one of the “Great Public Spaces in America,” Washington Park in south central Denver is a little slice of heaven where locals and visitors can relax, recreate, and recharge. Paddle around the lakes, saunter through the gardens, or escape the summer swelter under a sprawling shade tree at this 160-acre mile-long Mile High urban oasis. Wash Park is undoubtedly one of the most popular and picturesque parks in Denver and is the perfect spot for a summer getaway right here in the middle of the city.
One of the most fabulous features of Wash Park is that it boasts two of Denver's largest flower gardens, both of which were established in the early 1900s.
The park's massive Perennial Garden off Downing Street is the largest flower garden in the city and contains over 50 beds and 15,000 varieties of flowers.
Wash Park is also home to a Lily Pond and two large lakes with paths that loop around them and numerous benches, shade trees, and picnic sites along the way for your endless enjoyment.
Located at the boathouse at Smith Lake, Wheel Fun Rentals has a wide selection of specialty cycles, which allow you to cruise and explore the park in style and even have room aboard for the whole family.
Next time you want to venture out for a sunrise or sunset stroll, don't stick to your same old neighborhood haunts. Ramble on over to Wash Park and see what all the fuss is about!
Want to know one of my other favorite parks…and one where your dog can actually legally swim!? This lesser-known open space and nature preserve is pure bliss!
