12 Weird Side Effects Everyone Experiences From Growing Up In Denver
If you grew up in or around the Mile High City, you know that there are some… err, unique things that you are probably more accustomed to than people from other states. Take, for instance, these 12 weird side effects that everyone experiences from growing up in Denver (or the state of Colorado as a whole):
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here:
1.) Thinking it is okay to wear flip flops year-round...
C'mon people; the snow isn't THAT cold! Plus, why would you ever voluntarily spend $50+ on a pair of winter boots when you can get a perfectly good pair of flip flops for $.99?
2.) ...or that this acceptable attire.
Whether it is snowing or 80-some degrees outside, you can always find us wearing our favorite hoodie and and shorts combo! (Who needs a winter coat? Or jeans? Or shoes?)
3.) Distinguishing directions based on the location of the mountains.
Toward the mountains = west
Away from the mountains = east
I-25 toward Fort Collins = north
I-25 toward Colorado Springs = south
4.) Expecting cool field trips as a student.
Can you believe that not everyone gets to take school trips to rad places like the Butterfly Pavilion, Red Rocks, and Dinosaur Ridge (pictured)? It's tragic, isn't it?
5.) Always knowing where you will go for jewelry...
I have a friend in the jewelry business... do you?
6.) ...a used car...
If Rocky's doesn't work out for you, may we suggest Dealin' Doug and one of his unbeatable deals?
7.) ...or if you're in an accident.
You KNOW that you can count on the Strong Arm 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! (Plus, he is now the official law partner of the Denver Broncos, which is apparently a thing.)
8.) Actually wanting to spend your birthday with a clown.
Do yourself a favor and Youtube old episodes of Blinky's Fun Club... your entire childhood will flash before your eyes (and you will have his famous "Happy Birthday" song stuck in your head for the rest of the week).
9.) Believing that everything is too good to be true.
You learned from an early age that nothing is quite as it seems. Case in point: You thought Casa Bonita was going to be a wholesome experience --
until you spent the next 72 hours chained to your toilet. This may sound like a sad way to live, but look at it this way: Your expectations of everything are so low that you will never be let down by anything ever again!
10.) Expecting every pizza to be served with honey...
Not all pizza (and pizza crust) is created equal.
11.) ...and every menu to come with a "Colorado-style" option.
If a restaurant doesn't serve a homemade green chile, run. (Trust us; you don't want to get mixed up with any of that.)
12.) Finally, you quickly learn that with vibrant sunrises like these, waking up early isn't too hard to do.
Do you have to travel out of state for business or pleasure? Don't expect the skies to look this stunning!
