by Annie Most People Don’t Realize These 10 Iconic Movies And Shows Were Filmed In Denver
Denver is obviously the setting for amazing skylines, colorful parks, and world-class shopping… but did you know that the Mile High City has also been the setting for several movies and TV shows? It’s true! To prove it, check out these 10 iconic movies and TV shows that were filmed right here in Denver:
1.) "An American Terror" (2014)
Truth be told, I had never heard of this made-in-Denver movie... however, after reading the synopsis ("A group of friends hatch a plan to get revenge on the bullies who have been tormenting them. In doing so, they stumble upon an underground torture chamber filled with unspeakable horrors."), I can see why I haven't heard of it and how I have no real desire to watch it. #mamadoesntdoscarymovies
2.) Identity Thief (2013)
Seeing as though this Jason Bateman/Melissa McCarthy comedy begins in the Mile High City, it should come as no surprise that it was also filmed here!
3.) Away We Go (2009)
Away We Go is one of my favorite movies, so you can imagine my delight when I read that parts of it were filmed in and around the Denver area! (Seriously; if you haven't seen this movie, do yourself a favor and watch it.)
4.) Blades of Glory (2007)
When you watched this Will Ferrell comedy, did you ever think to yourself, "Hmm... that place they're skating sure looks familiar"? That could be because scenes from the movie were shot inside our very own Pepsi Center!
5.) Bowling for Columbine (2002)
The controversial Michael Moore documentary, which is centered around the tragedy at Columbine High School, was shot largely in Denver and Littleton.
6.) Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead (1995)
Who would have thought that "Things to Do in DENVER When You're Dead" was actually shot IN Denver?! Mind = blown.
7.) In the Line of Fire (1993)
Now you know that if a movie stars Clint Eastwood and John Malkovich, it's going to be good. What makes the action flick even better, however, is the fact that scenes were shot in Civic Center Park!
8.) Die Hard 2 (1990)
Yippee-ki-yay, mo-- well, you know the rest... but what you may not know is that scenes of the movie were shot at Denver's old Stapleton Airport.
9.) Mork & Mindy (1978-1982)
One of the few TV shows actually shot in Colorado was Robin Williams' breakout "Mork & Mindy," which took place (and was filmed) in Boulder.
10.) Sleeper (1973)
You know the spaceship house that you see whilst traveling west on I-70? That was actually the setting for the 1973 Woody Allen classic, "Sleeper"! In addition to being shot at the Sculptured House on Genesee Mountain, there were scenes that took place at both the Denver Botanic Gardens and the Table Mesa Laboratory of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder.
