This Haunted Museum Near Denver Will Terrify You In The Best Way Possible
Denver is one weird city (in the best way possible, of course). Not only is our weed legal and our colorful arts scene hopping, but we have all kinds of strange restaurants, shops, and museums right at our fingertips! Speaking of museums, did you know that we have a HAUNTED museum located just down the road from Denver? Let’s check it out:
Located 2 hours south of Denver lies the town of Canon City and their creepy, albeit epic Museum of Colorado Prisons (or Colorado Prison Museum), which invites its guests to "Unlock the past and experience the colorful history of prison life."
Housed in a former women's prison (that was originally constructed in 1935), the Colorado Prison Museum is the first exhibition of its kind, and has been welcoming guests since 1988.
What can you expect to find at the Colorado Prison Museum? For starters, there is an impressive collection of inmate art...
...artifacts from throughout the prison's 140-year history (like this seized contraband)...
...and even the prison's once used gas chamber.
While nearly every aspect of the museum is fascinating in its own way, one of the most intriguing parts of all is that the building that houses the Colorado Prison Museum is plagued by the paranormal.
According to reports by both visitors and museum staff, there have been several unexplainable occurrences since the museum first opened, including screams and strange mumbling, the sight of orbs, and even the smell of tobacco (when nobody is around).
(Could this be the spirits of the women inmates who died in the former prison? That is for you to decide.)
The Colorado Prison Museum is located at 201 1st Street in Canon City and is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. For more information, please visit the museum's
