Wildfires Are Raging Through Colorado And Are Devastating Parts Of The State

Fires are raging across northeastern Colorado, and efforts to contain the blaze are falling short.

Despite the efforts of at least 70 firefighters, the massive wildfire has scorched approximately 30,000 acres since it began Monday morning near the town of Proctor. Drought conditions and high winds have contributed to the size and ferocity of the blaze.

Only hours after declaring the fire 90 percent contained on Tuesday, firefighters announced that overnight flare-ups had dropped the containment level to only 50 percent Wednesday morning.

Three schools have been evacuated so far, and over 900 homes have been warned to be prepared for an evacuation.

The fires have killed at least six people in total, and at least five homes and several farm buildings have been destroyed. Farmers are also reporting that their cattle are being killed in the blaze, and tens of thousands of dollars in hay is going up in smoke.
