Here Are 4 Eclipse Parties In Colorado Perfect For Viewing The Big Event
What are you doing on August 21st? If you are one of the lucky, you may have thought far in advanced and booked a hotel room in Wyoming, Oregon, or South Carolina:
Or maybe, if you have to work, parent, or didn’t plan ahead (which is all of the above for yours truly), you are stuck at home during this nearly once-in-a-lifetime event! If this is the case for you, don’t feel too blue, as Colorado is still hosting a number of epic “The Great American Eclipse of the Sun” parties, which include:
1. Space Foundation Discovery Center (Colorado Springs)
Taking place on August 21st from 9 am to 2 pm is the Space Foundation Discovery Center's Solar Eclipse Party, which will feature solar viewing telescopes, a planetarium show, and even a chance to build your own eclipse viewer!
2. The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa at Beaver Creek Mountain (Avon)
For a FREE event in a gorgeous setting, check out the Solar Eclipse Watch Party at The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa! Partnering up with the Walking Mountain Science School, the event runs from 10 am until noon on the 21st and offers crafts, family fun, and a "safe viewing experience" with provided glasses.
3. Kawuneeche Visitor Center (Rocky Mountain National Park)
While this event doesn't take place during the actual eclipse (as it is scheduled for July 17th), the ranger-led Great American Solar Eclipse program runs from 10 am until noon and goes over the science behind the eclipse and how to view it safely.
Last but certainly not least is that of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and their epic solar-scope viewing, which will be held in the Boettcher Plaza from 9 am to 2 pm on the 21st! In addition to the viewing itself, the Museum will also host special events for the kids, like a story time and special crafts.
Whether you plan to attend one of these events, watch from your backyard, or travel out-of-state to witness the eclipse, there are a few things that you will want to keep in mind, which are discussed in this short video by CU Astronomer and Fiske Planetarium Director, Dr. Doug Duncan:
