The Bastien Family bought this property on East Colfax Avenue in 1937, where they operated the popular Moon Drive In until 1956. Mr. Bastien tore down that establishment in that year, and replaced it with the iconic steakhouse that still stands and operates there today. If you've ever driven on East Colfax Avenue in Denver, then you've surely seen and noticed Bastien's Restaurant, even if you've never eaten there before. This spot has an interesting, vintage look, and there are good reasons why it's been in business for almost 70 years.
This place is a Denver icon. As soon as you step inside, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time. This is a classic steakhouse. It doesn't feel old and dated, though - Bastien's always keeps the place in shape, even after all these years.
Of course, Bastien's serves lots of things that aren't steak if you have someone who doesn't love steak in your party. Other options include fish, veal, burgers, salads, chicken, pasta, and more.
But, you came for the steak, so the steak you will have. You can choose from 20 oz bone-in ribeye, a 10 or 16 oz NY strip steak, 6 or 10 oz filet mignon, or 12 oz bone-out dry aged ribeye. You can have these prepared any way you'd like, but you'd be doing yourself a great disservice if you don't get your steak with Bastien's famous sugar and spice rub.
This rub is recommended for marbled cuts of beef like ribeye or NY strip. Bastien's also offers a Southwest Sugar Rub for these cuts as well that includes Anaheim chilis, pepperjack cheese, green chili, and fried tortilla strips in the mix.
There are lots of different toppings to choose from for the steaks at Bastien's, including the Black and Tan, which includes mushrooms and a gorgonzola reduction, or the David, which includes shrimp and Cajun hollandaise.
The chefs at Bastien's are very creative and you'll find new specials on the menu all the time. Many are so good that they sell out within a few hours of opening.
