In addition to the world-class recreational opportunities and jaw-dropping landscape, the Yampa River Canyon is home to history galore, as the Fremont culture is said to have inhabited the area starting in 800 AD, followed by the White River Ute Native Americans and the Yamparika (or Yapudttka Utes).
When you visit the area today, be sure to keep your eyes peeled, as the Little Yampa Canyon is now home to Native American petroglyphs, including some 300 that were created along the canyon by just the early Fremont culture.
