Mooresville Is Most Historic And Charming Small Town In Alabama

It’s no secret Alabama is loaded with lots of fascinating history. In fact, several historic towns help make up Alabama. One town in particular is Mooresville. Mooresville is a town that's located in Limestone County, Alabama. Covering just 64 acres, it has less than 60 residents and is one of the state's most charming small towns.

Established on November 16, 1818, Mooresville, which has been described as an early 19th century village, is also one of Alabama's oldest towns.

One of the most interesting facts about Mooresville is the entire town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Among these places are several historic homes of all ages, sizes, and styles.

Mooresville's most famous building is its post office, which was built in 1840. It's Alabama's oldest continually operating post office.

Interestingly, some of the post office's call boxes date all the way back to the pre-Civil War years and have been owned by the same families ever since.

Another building in Mooresville that's loaded with lots of history is the town's Church of Christ (circa 1854). In 1862, the future President James A. Garfield preached here.

Mooresville's famous Brick Church, which was built from handmade bricks in 1839, is another historic building in town. Today, this Greek Revival-style church is a popular wedding venue.

The historic Stagecoach Inn and Tavern, which was built circa 1821, served as Mooresville's inn and very first post office. It's supposedly Alabama's oldest frame public building.
