Well, it all started back in the 1700s with Adrienne Dumon, a young French lady who couldn't stand to be without her love interest. And like most girls in love, we will risk it all. And that's exactly what she did!

Not expecting a terrible outcome, Dumon disguised herself as a cabin boy named, you guessed it...Jean, and joined her fiance, Chavet's exploration crew headed for the New World. Due to her small stature, she was nicknamed Petit Jean aka Little John by her shipmates.

After successfully reaching the New World, the crew was greeted by natives who invited them to explore the mountain. They stayed for a few months and prior to them heading back tragedy struck.

Out of nowhere, Petit Jean became violently sick with some kind of flu-like illness. It was then that she revealed her true identity. And legend has it, Chavet helped to nurse her but to no avail. She requested to be buried at the peak of the mountain, overlooking the Arkansas River.

A mound was later discovered and deemed to be Petit Jean's Grave, but you know how these legends go, nobody knows for sure.
