Flatside Pinnacle And The Ouachita Trail Might Be One Of The Most Beautiful Short-And-Sweet Hikes To Take In Arkansas
Arkansas has no shortage of hikes that lead to breathtaking vistas, but many are simply too long for a quick family outing. Flatside Pinnacle via the Ouachita Trail, however, is less than one mile long, nevertheless managing to offer some of the most awe-inspiring panoramic views in the Natural State.
At just .7 miles long, Flatside Pinnacle via Ouachita Trail is probably among the shortest hikes in all of Arkansas. Nestled in a sprawling wilderness area, this hidden gem is a perfect short-and-sweet adventure for the entire family.
What the hike lacks in length, it makes up for with an almost exclusively uphill climb. The elevation gain is only about 200 feet, but it persists from the trailhead all the way up to the summit.
Enjoy one of the best views Arkansas has to offer—and it hardly took any effort to get here! Rolling hills and mountain peaks tower far as the eye can see, blanketed in lush greenery reminiscent of an exotic jungle.
Rugged cliffs jut out from the path, their overwhelming presence simultaneously majestic and foreboding. Depending on the season, you also might see a variety of breathtaking wildflowers. Massive rock walls, vegetation, and a gorgeous overlook—this hike truly has it all.
Distant lakes shimmer underneath the brilliant sunshine as puffy clouds fill the sky overhead. It's so quiet up here, you could hear a pin drop, and the striking panoramic vistas seem to stretch infinitely out to the horizon.
Pro-tip: Time it so you reach the top at sunset. Camping is allowed at the site, which means you can really soak up the views without having to worry about hiking back down in the dark.
