You’ll Never Forget A Visit To One Of The Oldest Towns In Arkansas
The city of Batesville is the second oldest municipality in Arkansas, if you don’t include all the communities that cropped up in the early days and then disappeared. Batesville was first settled in 1810. By 1819 it was a proper town with a ferry across the White River and by 1822 the city was incorporated. Now a city with a population of just over 10,000, there’s plenty to see and do in Batesville.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! And on that note, please nominate your favorite local business that could use some love right now: https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/nominate/
J.B. Weisenfels has lived in rural Arkansas for three decades. She is a writer, a mom, and a graduate student. She is also an avid collector of tacky fish whatnots, slightly chipped teapots, and other old things. In her spare time she enjoys driving to the nearest creek to sit a while. If you were to visit her, she'd try to feed you cornbread.
