This Arkansas Lake Is The Largest Of Its Kind In North America

You’re probably familiar with Lake Ouachita. It’s unbelievably clear, full of islands, and the largest lake entirely in the state of Arkansas. Lake Chicot, however, holds an entirely different distinction. This southeastern Arkansas lake is the largest oxbow lake in North America.

Lake Chicot is located near the town of Lake Village, which is the "home of good fishing."
Lake Village calls itself the home of good fishing because Lake Chicot has some of the best fishing around. Largemouth bass, crappie, channel catfish, and bluegill are all hiding in the enormous lake.
The lake’s name, Chicot, is from a French word meaning "stumpy." It’s called that for the number of cypress stumps around its shores. Really, you can find a great number of cypresses standing in the river, too.
There’s a state park at Lake Chicot, so you’ll find all the campsites and boat launches you need for an epic adventure. There’s even a bait shop at the state park.
