Yes, that yummy, layered goodness that tickles all the right taste buds was first created in your backyard. And you can grab a slice of this iconic pie at Old South Restaurant In Russellville.

While we know that the possum pie was created in the state, not much information is known about its origin.

The earliest recipe dates back to 1974, appearing in thea Arkansas Democrat-Gazette article. Over the years, this iconic pie has taken on different names and forms.
Not only is it known as possum pie, but some Arkansas natives have also called it the Next Best Thing to Robert Redford, Four-Layer Delight, and Five-Layer Delight.

But the name itself might seem a bit deceiving for some, who envisioned a savory pie with chunks of possum meat inside.

The intent is to play a trick, just like the trickster animal, whose name is also a trick for some. Do you call it possum or opossum?
But one thing is for sure, no possums were ever killed in the making of this yummy pie.

In fact, the pie is filled with a bottom layer of cream cheese, then two middle layers of vanilla and chocolate pudding, and finally topped off with fluffy whipped cream.
