I am a nature lover and self-proclaimed foodie wrapped in one package. In my previous life, I was an Accountant, but numbers were boring and writing is the only thing that fuels my soul. So, I write because it's my freedom...it brings me joy. When I'm not writing dope articles for OnlyInYourState, I am writing and editing articles for my online blog on Medium.com. Or, when I get the chance, I am off on a trip with my family chasing waterfalls, or simply exploring the great outdoors. My mantra is to always find the best part of every day and bask in it.
Summer isn’t complete without a day at a lake. Whether it’s swimming, kayaking, fishing, camping, or simply relaxing, being at a lake or any body of water is my happy place. No matter if you live in Arkansas or just visiting, chances are, you’ve been to one of her many lakes. The well-known ones like Lake Ouachita and Beaver Lake are always great places to spend warm days. But if you want to escape the crowds and find a more peaceful spot, head to Shores Lake in Mulberry. This little-known lake in Arkansas is one of her true hidden gems. And now that the secret is out, let’s go and explore it for ourselves.
At 82 acres, Shores Lake is not the largest lake in Arkansas, but it sure is one of the prettiest. This little-known lake is a great spot to spend summer days, especially if you want to escape the crowds.
Shores Lake Campground, 18660 Bliss Rdg Rd, Mulberry, AR 72947, USA
Completed in 1958, this man-made lake has been a source for fishing and tons of recreational activities including swimming, kayaking, boating, and more.
It's stocked with catfish, bluegill, and bass, and you can easily fish from one of the piers along the shore. Best of all, the fishing piers are accessible, so it's great for folks with all abilities.
Aside from fishing, you can launch a boat or kayak and spend the day on the water. Beginning on Memorial Day weekend, bring your swimsuit and swim at the designated beach...
If you want some adventure, trek the 13-mile rugged trail that leads to some of the best natural landscapes in the Ozarks. You'll encounter overlooks, rock formations, wildlife, waterfalls, and more.
The best part about spending time at a lake is camping there because you can wake up and relive the day again. There are about 20 designated campsites (no hookups) at the lake if you want to spend the night.
Shores Lake might not be the biggest lake in Arkansas. But what it lacks in size it makes up for in beauty and recreational opportunities, making it a great destination for a summer day trip or weekend getaway.
