Calling all stargazers of Arkansas. Perhaps by now, you know that the Buffalo National River is one of the most remote dark skies in the world. And this designation was issued in 2019 by the non-profit group the International Dark-Sky Association. So, not only is this river Arkansas’ treasure, but it is also known as an international phenomenon. And if you haven’t yet looked to the dark skies while at the river, let’s explore a few ways that you can experience the best stargazing in Arkansas.

In case you don’t know, an International Dark Sky Park is a public or private area dedicated to natural conservation and the reduction of light pollution.

Through the efforts of the park system, staff and volunteers will reduce the artificial lighting from these areas.
As a result, it creates darker skies, which makes these parks more ideal for stargazing as well as scientific discoveries.

So, prior to gaining the distinction in 2019, the Buffalo management and team took the necessary measures to reduce light pollution throughout the park.
