This Unique Tour Through Arkansas Showcases The Delta Like You’ve Never Seen It Before

Scenic drives are fun but there’s a different way to tour the Arkansas Delta for an even more memorable experience. The Sunken Lands Cultural Roadway is a unique journey through the Delta’s gems. Let’s plot out our next adventure along this family-friendly bike path.

Beginning in Tyronza, the Sunken Lands Cultural Roadway is your path to the Delta's numerous gems.

The trail is 52 miles in total but can be broken up to fit your family's itinerary. The entire trail follows a paved route so the ride itself is rated as easy. The first point of interest is Southern Tenant Farmers Museum. The museum focuses on the vital agricultural developments in the region as well as the history of the Southern Tenant Farmers’ Union.

Fans of John Grisham will appreciate the next stop in Lepanto.

After riding through Marked Tree, the small town of Lepanto is next. The town was used as the film site for the movie rendition of Grisham's A Painted House.
The most notable stop is at the Historic Dyess Colony.

The colony of Dyess was formed in 1934 as a federal agricultural resettlement community. This was part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal to aid in economic recovery after the Great Depression. What used to be the Dyess Theatre and Pop Shop is now the Dyess Colony Visitors Center.
The colony is a fascinating look into relief effort provided to farmers during the Great Depression but there's another highlight in the area as well.

The Dyess Colony was also the boyhood home of Johnny Cash! The family moved to their house at the colony when Johnny was 3 years old. The tour of the colony is interesting at any time but the Johnny Cash Heritage Festival in the fall is an especially fun time to visit.
These are just the highlights of a unique tour filled with even more attractions, museums, and local eateries.
Arkansas Welcome Center at Corning
The town of Wilson is the next stop (where you absolutely have to stop at the Wilson Cafe). Explore the rest of the town's museums and state park before making the return loop to Tyronza. For an interactive map of the trail, use this link.
