Even Locals Miss The Splendors Of Little Rock’s 230-Acre Nature Preserve In Arkansas
Reconnect with nature without even leaving city limits. One of Arkansas’ newer nature preserves, the William Kirsch Preserve, shouldn’t be missed! Today’s relaxing paradise will whisk you away to a quiet riverside retreat so let’s pack a picnic before we go explore.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

If you stare at this picture long enough you'll be able to hear the warm breeze through the field and breathe in the fresh earthy scent. That said, it's best to visit in person for the full experience.

The preserve's land was sold to the Nature Conservancy in 2014 instead of being developed for housing. It's amazing what's hiding around Little Rock - this preserve is over 200 acres!

On land, the collection of small trails take about an hour to leisurely explore. In addition to the natural splendor of the area, this is also a perfect place for your four-legged friends! Unleashed dogs are welcomed to the preserve. As with any gem in Arkansas, just be sure to leave no trace.

Stay on the boardwalks and fish a while or take on the water trail for more excitement. Take your kayak along the river's 8.2-mile trail to navigate around the massive cypress trees. If you can't get enough of the Little Maumelle you can even camp on this floating platform.

Within eye shot of the preserve sits Pinnacle Mountain. The state park is only a ten minute drive from the preserve so it's easy to turn this dog walk into a full day (or weekend) of exploring.
