This Beautiful Mountain Lake Makes The Perfect Arkansas Day Trip
Lake Leatherwood is the one getaway spot in Arkansas that everyone will enjoy. From causal hiking to mountain biking, there’s something the whole family will love. Let’s take a drive to Eureka Springs and explore this beautiful area.
Lake Leatherwood is a gorgeous mountain lake at Eureka Springs.
The 85 acre spring-fed lake is the featured attraction of the 1,600-acre Lake Leatherwood City Park. The park is located at 1303 Co Rd. 204, Eureka Springs, AR 72632.
Besides the astounding beauty of the whole area, the park also has some interesting human engineering.
The park is home to one of the largest largest hand-cut native limestone dams in the country. It was originally built by the Works Progress Administration in the 1940s.
The park has a plethora of activities that make it the perfect Arkansas day trip.
Hiking and mountain biking attract the most folks but there's also water-based fun and unique rock formations to explore.
The trails are great for hikers at every skill.
Two-legged or otherwise can enjoy the park's 25 miles of trails. The 3.4-mile Lake Leatherwood Loop is a great way to tour the lake.
You can also take on some of the challenging mountain bike trails, too.
The park does have a beginner trail for casual bikers but the downhill course is where experienced bikers will have the most fun.
The lake is perfect for a whole host of activities...
Stop by the marina to rent a kayak or paddle boat. The spring-fed lake is full of bass, bream, crappie as well as catfish.
...just be sure you're properly dressed!
(Suited) swimming is a great way to cool off from taking all those hikes.
If you find you're needing more than just one day at the lake that's okay...
Lake Leatherwood has 24 campsites including three RV sites. There's also six cabins available, too.
...because there's really nothing better than waking up to this beautiful scene.
No matter how long you're staying, Lake Leatherwood is a picture-perfect summer trip.
