The 1/2-mile out-and-back trail winds through the now-abandoned 1882 homestead of James Villines and his wife, Sarah Arbaugh.
Hidden among towering trees, the homestead isn’t visible from the road; however, it couldn’t be easier to access.

Make sure to wear good, closed-toed shoes, and bring along enough water - despite the trail being short and sweet, the ruins are much too cool to resist exploring, and hydration is always important.
To begin the hike, you’ll cross the Ponca Low-Water Bridge. From there, simply follow the path.

You'll feel like you're wandering through time and into the past; if these trees could talk, what tales would they tell? They've been here since this homestead was alive and well, at least.
Eventually, you’ll come to a fork in the path. You can actually go either way, as both lead to the homestead.
