The endless beauty found in Arizona is like a candy store for the eyeballs. From scenic drives to scenic hikes, Arizona has so much territory to explore and love. One area found in the Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Area is a perfect place to discover some of the most unusual geologic formations in the state. Take a look:
Most people visiting Northern Arizona head straight to the famous Wave formations in the Coyote Butte area. And that's a fine place to explore, but there's something really different nearby.
If you resist the urge to follow the flock and you head to the East instead, you won't be disappointed by the geologic wonder known as White Pocket. However, the area is SO REMOTE you may need a guide to get around. But the insanely gorgeous landscape is worthy of the added effort to get here.

At the very least, you'll definitely need a 4-wheel-drive vehicle to get into White Pocket, located on the Paria Plateau in Northern Arizona.
The drive to this sensational natural wonder is quite an adventure, and many feel more comfortable hiring a guide or heading to this remote wilderness with a tour company.
After quite the journey on some roads even 4-wheel-drive vehicles have been known to get stuck in from time to time, you'll see it sticking out over the top of the dunes.
Hike your way up to the towering natural work of art and enjoy exploring the odd rock formations. Geologists have a few theories on how (and when) this geologic mass occurred.
One theory is an earthquake caused a massive sand slide.
