Verde Hot Spring Is An Easy Hike In Arizona That Leads To A Hidden Oasis
Hike this easy trail to an abandoned resort and take a dip in the two natural pools that survived its tragic downfall.
A 2.5-mile out-and-back trail, this remote hike in Tonto National Forest is easy and accessible all year. With an elevation gain of just under 200 feet, almost everyone can embark on the journey.
Fall is the perfect time to visit, as the unrelenting desert sun won't beat down on you. Rather than trying to finish as quickly as possible, instead focus your efforts on truly enjoying the gorgeous scenery.
Better views of the Verde River simply don't exist anywhere else in Arizona. Take a cool, refreshing dip before warming up in the hot springs. You will have to wade through a bit of water, but it shouldn't be anything terribly high since we've had a drier than usual summer.
Unique architecture around every corner serves as a reminder of the lively community that once existed here. Even though the resort has been abandoned since 1962 after a tragic fire engulfed it, the quirky spirit remains unchanged.
Two springs survived the flames: one located inside that multicolored brick structure and the other pictured here. Both are a pleasantly warm 100 degrees, accommodating 3-4 adults each.
Soak in the relaxing, natural hot tub while taking in the unparalleled mountainous vistas surrounding you. Stick around and watch the sunset for an even more unforgettable experience.
It can get crowded, but visiting after about 6 p.m. greatly reduces the likelihood. There's no feeling quite like having a hot spring to yourself in the middle of nowhere.
Please note that a four-wheel drive vehicle is preferred, as the road leading to the trailhead gets pretty rough. You’ll find more information on the hike’s AllTrails page.
