You Can Practically Touch The Sky When You Climb One Of The Tallest Mountains In Arizona
Mountains in Arizona are just begging to be climbed, wouldn’t you agree? Our state’s fifth-highest mountain, Doyle Peak, is an underrated natural wonder that belongs on your outdoor adventure bucket list. The hike to the summit isn’t easy, but once you see the breathtaking view, you’ll thank yourself for putting in the effort.
Humphrey's Peak might be the tallest mountain in Arizona, but it certainly isn't the only one worth climbing.
Doyle Peak is our state's fifth-highest mountain, towering at an impressive height of nearly 11,500 feet. That's just 1,000 feet shy of Humphrey's, with the added bonus of attracting far fewer crowds.
Located near Flagstaff within the Coconino National Forest, the mountain is accessible via the Inner Basin Trail, which is best known for its aspen trees that turn a beautiful shade of gold in the fall.
Although the trail is most popular during autumn, it's equally as beautiful in every other season. Winter turns the landscape into a real-life snow globe, summer brings lush, verdant foliage...
The version of the trail that leads up to Doyle Peak is around 7.7 miles long and features an elevation gain of 2,000 feet. It's challenging, to be sure, but the view waiting for you at the end makes every ounce of effort worth its while.
Finally, after hours of pushing yourself to the limit, you're rewarded in the best way possible. You can see for miles all around from the summit, and the views are simply jaw-dropping.
Have you ever climbed Doyle Peak? If so, we’d love to hear all about your experience in the comments!
