With a population of less than 900, this remote mountain town truly is one of Arizona's best-kept secrets.
The mystique of ghost towns meets historic charm, setting the area apart from anywhere else in our state. The neighboring mountain ranges are known as "Sky Islands," towering over the desert and providing homes for one of the world's most diverse collections of wildlife.
Of the few who frequent Patagonia, you can safely assume most are avid birdwatchers. More than 300 species are native to the area.
From hiking trails to sanctuaries, the viewing options are endless. There's even an entire center dedicated to hummingbirds alone!

Patagonia Lake State Park is another great birding spot. With regularly-scheduled guided hikes and pontoon boat tours, there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate the incredible creatures with fellow enthusiasts.

Stick around for a classic Arizona sunset, as the park doesn't close until 11 p.m. Watching day fade into night with the majestic Sky Islands as a backdrop never gets old.
Nearby, you'll find Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve. More than 20 miles of easily navigable trails promise breathtaking scenery and up to 60 bird species during springtime.
Most of the trails are remote, leading hikers on a winding journey to the beautiful Sonoita Creek.
Known as "Arizona's Year-Round Mountain Playground," Parker Canyon Lake is the perfect waterfront escape. Rent a kayak, fishing boat, or stand-up paddle board and get ready for a full day of adventure.
And if you don't have a fishing license, they're sold at the marina!
Historical gems abound throughout Patagonia, starting with its town hall located in a decommissioned railroad depot. A museum and visitor center also offer more details about this charming community's rich, fascinating past.
Other non-nature attractions include vineyards, restaurants, farmers markets, and festivals.
