I absolutely love the United Kingdom, and that includes the food. There’s something so satisfying and comforting about British cuisine, at least to me anyway. But if you can’t leave the country anytime soon, several options will satisfy your wanderlust here in the Grand Canyon State. You can even pretend to take a trip across the pond when you visit the Cornish Pasty Co. in Arizona. I happen to love this restaurant and with several locations around the state, chances are you live close to one.
With several locations around the Phoenix Metro area as well as one location in Jerome and one in Flagstaff, you might not be too far away from a Cornish Pasty Co. Visiting this restaurant is like taking a trip across the Atlantic without actually leaving Arizona.
While each location is decorated a bit differently, you'll still have that feeling like you're in an English pub. So, take a seat at the bar or at a table and get ready to order a Cornish Pasty!
If you are unfamiliar with what a Cornish Pasty is, well, it's a type of pastry that dates all the way back to the 1200s in Cornwall, England. Wives would make these simple hand-held pastries for their husbands who went off to work in the mines. Traditional Pasties were filled with beef, turnip, potato, and onion on one end and with a sweet filling on the other,
Cornish Pasties are shaped like the letter "D" and are crimped on one end to hold the filling in. The crimped end was also used as a handle of sorts for the miners who would discard them once finished eating.
Now, if this historic British food sounds intriguing to you and you've never had one, you must make your way to a Cornish Pasty Co. location immediately! I have to say, they are delicious, and with all the options at this Arizona-based British restaurant, you'll have plenty on the menu to choose from.
The menu is quite extensive and divided into the following categories: Signature Pasties, Premium Pasties, and Vegan & Vegetarian Pasties. There are all sorts of unique pasties like Hatch Chili Burger (Signature), Lamb Vindaloo (Premium), and Vegan Guinness Stew (Vegan & Vegetarian). You'll absolutely find one, or even a few, to try.
And if you want dessert, there's even an Apple Caramel Pasty as well as a Peanut Butter & Jelly Pasty. The question is, which pasty will you try first?
