Route 66 is more than a road – it’s a piece of living history preserved in bits and pieces from California all the way to Illinois. One of the most unique gas stations in Arizona, Cool Springs, is a Route 66 treasure dating to the 1920s. Part museum and part gift shop, it keeps the spirit of the Mother Road alive, and it’s a must-visit next time you’re in the Kingman area. Cool Springs Station Route 66 is seriously an experience in and of itself!

Cool Springs Station Route 66

  1. Where is Route 66 in Arizona?

Though partially defunct now thanks to the development of Interstate 40, which traverses much of what used to be Route 66 in Arizona, there are still traces of the Mother Road in the Copper State today. Nevertheless, Arizona is still home to the longest stretch of Route 66 in the nation. Towns Route 66 in AZ went through – and in some cases, still goes through (from east to west) – include Holbrook, Winslow, Flagstaff, Williams, Seligman, Kingman, Oatman, and Topock.

  1. Where is Cool Springs Station on Route 66?

20 miles west of Kingman, Arizona, is the legendary Cool Springs Station on Route 66. It’s technically located in Oatman, which is a ridiculously fun town in and of itself to explore (seriously, there are wild burros roaming the streets and that’s about the most Arizona thing in the world). You can’t miss the station, as it’s got a truly unique exterior and remains one of the most popular stops on the old 66. Learn more about the town of Oatman!

  1. What other stops on Route 66 in Arizona should I do?

We think driving Route 66 in Arizona – from east to west or west to east – is a fun way to spend a day trip. With 385 miles of the 66 to check out, it’s an excellent way to kill some time. Some of the must-do stops along the way include:

  • Lake Havasu City – Home to the actual London Bridge, this town is known as one of the best party places in the southwest.
  • Williams – This town is known as the “Gateway to the Grand Canyon”, and it’s also home to Bearizona, one of the coolest drive-through wildlife attractions in the country.
  • Flagstaff – This stunning mountain paradise is a hippie college town, and we mean that in the best way possible. Don’t forget to hit up Snowbowl!
  • Winslow – You gotta come here just to stand on the corner. We don’t make the rules.
