The Grand Canyon is a wonder in itself but you’ll also find some truly beautiful sights between the rim and the canyon floor, which we think are best seen by hiking one of the many trails.

However, it’s the South Kaibab Trail that not only offers wonderful views on the way down to the Colorado River but also a nice surprise for hikers.

To cross the river, you’ll do so over the Kaibab Suspension Bridge, which is also known as the Black Suspension Bridge. It spans about 416 feet and is just 5 feet wide.

The bridge was built in 1928 to replace other, slightly scarier bridges like the one seen below. And, since vehicles couldn’t access the area, all 122 tons of buildings materials had to be lugged down on mule or foot!

You might want to try conquering your fear of heights before crossing this bridge, however. You will be standing 65 feet above the rushing river water!
