Both of my parents grew up in small towns here in Arizona (and in a couple of neighboring states), so I think small town folks are a pretty cool bunch who can be quite different from city people. Here are just a few reasons why:

1. They learn responsibility early on.

If you grew up in a small town, chances are you had to help take care of the family garden/farm/ranch/store at a young age, meaning you learned responsibility and the value of hard work.
2. They are self-reliant.

Not every town has a local mechanic to figure out what's wrong with your car or a contractor to install a fence. Also, that wood's not going to chop itself!
3. They are friendly.

Here's one I hear from my parents all the time: small town people are way more friendly than people in the city. They are more likely to greet you, catch up on life, and lend a hand.
4. They have an incredible sense of community.

Similar to the previous one, people in small towns are invested in their community and are more likely to be engaged in local events. There's also nothing quite like the support a small town community has during adverse times.

When you live in a small town, chances are your extended family lives nearby. They were your playmates, babysitters, and mentors.
6. They know how to appreciate the small things.

One example is access to entertainment. You learned how to make do with the four fuzzy channels you got on TV or straining to hear your favorite song over the AM waves!
7. They appreciate their surroundings.
