10 Shocking Facts About Arizona That Could Make You Want To Move
Arizona has generally been pretty hostile to outsiders—and sometimes even to our own. But today’s article is dedicated to those who plan to move to the Grand Canyon state, whether it’s the first time or returning home after a stint in a cold, dreary place. Alternatively, if you have a loved one who has been indecisive about moving back to Arizona, remind them how awesome our state is by sending them a few of these Arizona fun facts:
1. Arizona is the real sunshine state.
Several of our cities report receiving at least 78% sunny days each year, and anyone who lives here knows we're not talking about a brief moment when the sun breaks through the clouds. This is almost-blinding sunlight that chases away any chance of seasonal affect disorder.
2. Arizona's cost of living is on the low end of the national average.
Sunny and affordable? Who wouldn't want that?
3. Arizona is wine country.
Yes, it is true and we have quite a few award-winning wineries to prove it.
4. Arizona is a birding paradise.
Love hummingbirds? Each year, Arizona sees 17 different species flitting through the state, more than other Western states.
5. Here's a silly one: Arizona is a trendsetter...for official neckwear.
Did you know Arizona was the first to adopt the bolo tie as official neckwear?
6. Arizona is a great place for non-smokers.
Can't stand the smell of cigarettes? In 1973, Arizona was the first state to ban smoking in places such as government buildings and hospitals, so you didn't have to worry about the doctor dropping cigarette ashes on you during a check-up. Since then, many of Arizona's cities have taken action to ban smoking in other public areas.
7. Arizona is home to a large portion of Route 66.
Want to experience Americana as witnessedd by your parents and grandparents? Go for a drive on Route 66.
8. Arizona is home to a growing (and ever evolving) foodie culture.
If you love food as much as I do (Hint to restaurants: I never turn down a free meal!), you'll be happy to know that Arizona's food scene is currently a burgeoning one.
9. Arizona has fewer places to remember.
For example, we only have 15 counties to remember as opposed to, say, the 254 in Texas. Who has time for that?
10. Arizona's natural beauty comes through its environmental diversity.
There are few other places you will find many of our plants, landscapes, and animals. In fact, we have nature that looks like this….
And even animals like this.
Which is your favorite thing about living in Arizona? What would you say to someone looking to move (back) to our state?
