10 Of The Greatest Hiking Trails On Earth Are Right Here In Arizona
One of the best things about living in Arizona is access to an amazing number of hiking trails. Long, short, difficult, or easy, you don’t have to travel far to find a trail that offers just what you want with beautiful views. Check out some of our favorite trails that we think aren’t just the best in the state but the world!
1. Arizona Trail
Why, yes, we are starting this list with the 800-mile trail that runs from the very northern edge of Arizona down to the US-Mexico border. Hiking the entire trail is quite a feat but is doable if you complete it in segments, which is how most people tend to hike this trail.
2. The Big Loop at Chiricahua National Monument
Measuring at 8.5 miles, this trail takes you through some lovely scenery at Chiricahua National Monument. You’ll see a massive collection of striking hoodoos that number in the thousands!
3. Bright Angel Trail
This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning at least one hiking trail at the Grand Canyon. Bright Angel is a popular option that takes hikers from the South Rim down to the Colorado River all while getting a chance to see some of that beautiful scenery for yourself.
4. Echo Canyon Trail
This popular trail at Camelback Mountain in Phoenix can be a risky option but the views and workout to get here are worth it! We’re always surprised that such views can be found smack dab in the middle of a major metropolitan area!
5. Havasupai Trail
This is one long trail that may take a few days to complete but it will give you some spectacular views of the Grand Canyon, including a collection of waterfalls that you won’t find anywhere else!
6. Humphreys Trail
Want to see some beautiful landscapes that not many people can boast about? Humphreys Trail will lead hikers to the summit of Arizona’s highest peak and our only alpine tundra.
7. Lava River Tube
Arizona was once home to some very lively volcanoes and this lava tube is just one of the many examples of that past. The tube stays cold throughout the year and during a short hike through here, you'll get to see the ripples of the lava that once flowed through.
8. Siphon Draw Trail
The Sonoran Desert is filled with stark beauty and this trail not only shows off that but also the rugged landscape you can only find here. The trail leads you from the base of the Superstition Mountains on up Flatiron, serving as a wonderful introduction to the desert.
9. Waterfall Trail
Fossil Creek has to be one of the most popular places in the state and looks a little oasis in the middle of our otherwise arid state. This trail leads you along a portion of the creek, showing off some spectacular scenery.
10. West Fork of Oak Creek
And, last but not least, is one of Arizona's most popular trails, West Fork of Oak Creek. No matter the time of year, this area always features stunning scenery on an easy to access trail.
Those trails look amazing, don’t you think? Which have you hiked before? Are there any others you would add to this list?
